switchED:ON
Singapore15th May - 20th May 2007

Switched:ON = Electricity. to connect, disconnect, or redirect (an electric circuit or the device it serves) by operating a switch (often fol. by off or on): I switched on a light.
Apparently, our switches have to be switched on once we are in the teaching profession. Being a teacher, sometimes it challenges our own conscience and principles. As teachers, we are expected to be the role model to students, to be 'perfect' examples. We are to follow the rules. What happens when a teacher is not as perfect as it is deemed to be? Or if our 'Switches' are never switched on? Do we conform or do we do stay the way we are?
“SwitchED: ON” is a follow up from our previous show "17 Switches", "Switched: ON" refers to our position now as qualified teachers, reflecting on what we went through the last four years, tracking back our transition from before to the present and even looking into our future, how each and everyone of us have emerged from our cocoon as qualified teachers and reflect upon what our training has transformed us into. Presenting the first cohort from the Diploma in Art Education (1 Year) programme from the National Institute of Education, a mixture of youth and experience, of differing backgrounds and cultures, coming together for one common passion, the visual arts and teaching. “SwitchED: ON” assembles an array of visual stimulants about our perception of what we had gone through to reach this stage where this graduation show marks a milestone of our enriched, holistic process to the end of our training and envisions of what is to become to the aesthetics in the future of the visual arts education.
We invite you to enter our realm of thought and reflect with us our processes, as we envision the future.
